How are chronic wounds treated?
Each patient undergoes an initial evaluation of the wound and his or her medical history and current health are reviewed. Blood tests and other laboratory workups that provide information about blood and oxygen flow may be ordered to identify medical conditions that can be addressed to facilitate more effective wound healing.
Once underlying factors have been addressed that are contributing to the development or slow healing of chronic wounds, an individualized treatment plan is put in place to address these conditions. One of our wound care providers will monitor the healing of the wound with weekly measurements, cleaning, and when indicated, dead tissue will be removed (sharp debridement). The patient and his or her caregivers are then educated about proper wound care and prevention. They’re taught how to care for wounds at home and receive information about nutrition and exercises that may aid in the healing process and prevent future wounds. Who will be treating my wound?
Wound Navigator’s team of advanced registered nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and Chief Medical Officer work together with each patient’s caregivers to provide a multidisciplinary team of experts caring for each patient’s individual conditions and needs.
Will I be able to see my medical records?
Wound Navigator provides patients with the ability to access their personalized patient portal, where they can view comprehensive details such as their plan of care, medical notes, and test results.
Is my wound care going to be painful?
Whether wound care will be painful or not depends on various factors such as the type and severity of the wound, individual pain tolerance, and the specific treatments used. However, advancements in wound care technology, such as the utilization of the UltraMist therapy system, aim to minimize discomfort and promote healing.
The UltraMist therapy system is a non-invasive and painless treatment option that delivers therapeutic solutions to wounds using a fine mist. This mist contains a solution tailored to the wound's needs, such as antimicrobial agents or wound healing accelerators. The gentle misting process helps keep the wound moist, clean, and promotes tissue regeneration without causing significant pain or discomfort to the patient. It's important to note that while treatments like UltraMist are designed to be comfortable, some patients may experience mild sensations during the application, such as a cool or tingling feeling. However, these sensations are generally well-tolerated and temporary. Your healthcare provider will assess your wound's condition and discuss the most appropriate treatment options, including the potential for any discomfort or pain. They will also provide guidance on managing any discomfort that may arise during or after the wound care procedures. How much will wound care cost me?
The cost of wound care can vary widely depending on factors such as the type and severity of the wound, the specific treatments needed, insurance coverage, and the healthcare provider's pricing structure. Without specific details about your wound and insurance plan, it's challenging to provide an exact cost.
To determine how much wound care will cost you, Wound Navigator will: 1. Review your insurance coverage to understand what services are included, copayments, deductibles, and any out-of-pocket expenses you may incur. This will all be communicated prior to treatment. 2. Information about our financial assistance programs, discounts, and payment plans will be discussed if available. Ultimately, the cost of wound care can vary significantly from person to person based on individual circumstances and treatment needs. Wound Navigator will be open and transparent about financial responsibilities and help to manage cost effectively. In general, minor wounds like cuts, scrapes, or small abrasions may heal within a few days to a couple of weeks, especially with proper wound care and hygiene.
Deeper or more complex wounds, such as surgical incisions, diabetic ulcers, or pressure sores, may take longer to heal.
